KUALA LUMPUR: KPJ Healthcare Bhd, a member of Johor Corporation, today unveiled Malaysia’s first digital operating theatre with navigation system at its newly opened KPJ Tawakkal Specialist Hospital.

"The RM2 million digital operation the.. tre with navigation system helps achieve breakthrough in the field of orthopaedic surgery.

"And it will also serve as a platform for orthopaedic specialists to share their knowledge as well as to enhance healthcare education," KPJ Healthcare Managing Director Datin Paduka Siti Sa’diah Sheikh Bakir told reporters here.

She said the facility at KPJ Tawakkal Specialist Hospital was the second in the region after the one in Singapore.

With the facility imported from the United States, the company aimed to become a centre of excellence in knee surgery, joint replacement and other orthopaedic services, she added.

Asked whether similar facilities would be acquired for other KPJ hospitals, Siti Sa’adiah said it would be based on the need of its orthopedic surgeons.

"If this is successful, we may duplicate it in some other parts of our KPJ accredited hospitals," she said.

She said that for the time being, the company was more concerned with public feedbacks and not the return of investment for the facility.

KPJ Counsultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Medical Director Dr G. Ruslan Nazaruddin Simanjuntak said the facility had many advantages.

"The new system will minimise bleeding, pain and bacterial infection during an operation. On top of that, it is measured through a computer. It is a very accurate measurement." he said. Bernama
