BRANDS AWARD FOR DR MAHATHIR - TOP COMPANIES HONOURED FOR THEIR BEST PRACTICES

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was awarded
the inaugural BrandLaureate Hall of Fame Award 2008 for his efforts in putting the country on the world map.

Raja Perempuan of Perlis Tengku Fauziah Almarhum Tengku Abdul Rashid presented him the award at the
BrandLaureate Award 2007-2008. The event was organised by the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation (APBF).

The BrandLaureate Award and its various categories were conceptualised to honour brand excellence amongst brands in Malaysia and globally.

It is awarded to deserving brands amongst multinational, and public-listed and government-linked companies that have shown best practices in branding and met the requirements of the APBF. The winners are selected based on a 300-point selection criteria covering brand strategy, culture, integrated brand communication, brand equity and brand performance.

In addition to Dr Mahathir, three other corporate figures were presented the Brand Personality awards.
They were Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid,
Genting Bhd and Resorts World Bhd chairman and chief executive officer Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay and AmBank group chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim.

Awards were presented to companies representing various industries for corporate branding, product branding, heritage, conglomerate and societe. Amongst prominent companies recognised for corporate branding were Malaysian Airlines, insurance company American International Group Inc, KPJ Healthcare Bhd and MPH Bookstores Sdn Bhd, while one of Kuala Lumpur's newest malls, Kuala Lumpur Pavilion, food and beverage chain Secret Recipe, Malayan Banking Bhd's online banking site Maybank 2u.com and Shangri-La Hotel were recognised for their product branding.

In the heritage category, awards were presented to Eastern & Oriental Bhd, Eu Yan Sang and Standard Chartered for having survived the test of time, maintained their distinction and quality as well as staying relevant through innovation.

The conglomerate awards were presented to AmBank group, PNB, Sunway group, UEM World Bhd and UMW Holdings Bhd, while the societe awards, for excellence in corporate social responsibility, promotion of green causes and philanthropy, were presented to Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Shell Malaysia and Resorts World Bhd.
