Dr. Chen Chee Kean is a Consultant Anaesthesiologist with specialist training in Interventional Pain Management. He received his medical degree from University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in 2002 and completed Anaesthesiology residency and specialist training at University Science Malaysia (USM) in 2010. Subsequently, Dr. Chen became a member of Academy of Medicine Malaysia in 2013.
Dr. Chen is one of the few clinicians in Malaysia who was awarded Fellowship in Interventional Pain Practise (FIPP) from World Institute of Pain, the USA in 2012 after completed training and passed in Interventional Pain Practise Examination. His keen interest is in treating chronic neck pain, low back pain, face pain, postoperative pain and neuropathic pain with minimally invasive radiofrequency technique. Minimally invasive interventional pain treatment is the latest therapy for chronic pain conditions, which reduces unwanted side-effects of long-term pain medications.
During his tenure at Sarawak General Hospital, Dr. Chen practiced clinical anaesthesiologist for various types of surgery, provided care for ICU patients and managed chronic pain patients in Pain Clinic. Dr. Chen has also been actively involved in providing training in the field of interventional pain management and regional anesthesia. He has been invited as speaker and facilitator to various training events in this region. Besides being an active journal reviewer, Dr. Chen has authored and published more than twenty scientific papers and abstracts in international peer-reviewed journals.
