The activities of the lab are divided into the following categories:
1. Hematology Service
The Hematology department handles the examination of red blood cells and coagulation. It carries out analyses of the concentration, structure, and function of cells in the blood; their precursors in the bone marrow; chemical constituents of the plasma or serum intimately linked with cell structure and function; and the function of platelets and proteins involved in blood coagulation.
2. Biochemistry Service
In the biochemistry department, biochemical analysis of body fluids, drugs of abuse, and some hormones are carried out by photometry, ISE, and FPIA methods.
3. Bacteriology Service
The bacteriology department's task is to isolate and identify micro-organisms, fungi, and parasites, and to determine susceptibilities.
4. Serology/Immunology/Allergy
The serology department concentrates on antigen and antibody reactions. The quantitative analyses of hormones, allergies, vitamins, tumor markers, and qualitative analysis of infectious diseases are carried out using MEIA, EIA, agglutination, and immunoturbidity techniques in the serology department
5. Histopathology/Cytology Service
In the histology/cytology section, tissue and other body specimens are processed and examined for abnormalities.
6. Fluids and Excretions
Urine and stool specimens are subjected to microscopic examination in the urinalysis section. Rapid biochemical analysis of urine specimens using test strips is carried out in the urinalysis section.
7. Molecular Diagnostic
A laboratory test that checks for certain genes, proteins, or other molecules in a sample of tissue, blood, or other body fluid. Molecular tests also check for certain changes in a gene or chromosome that may cause or affect the chance of developing a specific disease or disorder, such as cancer.
8. Autoimmune Diagnostic Testing
Tests for autoimmune diseases measure the number of certain antibodies in your blood. Your body makes antibodies to attack and destroy substances such as bacteria and viruses. But in autoimmune diseases, the antibodies attack and destroy your body's tissues. This can lead to diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, and lupus. These health problems affect the connective tissues, such as the skin and joints, blood vessels, and other tissues.
