Our Physiotherapist provides client-centred services that develop, maintain and restore people's maximum movement and functional ability. They can help patient at any stage of life, when movement and function are threatened by ageing, injury, diseases, disorders, conditions or environmental factors.
KPJ Tawakkal Physiotherapist helps patients in maximise their quality of life, looking at physical, psychological, emotional and social wellbeing. They work in the health spheres of promotion, prevention, treatment/intervention and rehabilitation.
In KPJ Tawakkal Specialist Hospital physiotherapist treat patients from all groups of ages. We help the patients to manage pain and recuperating during rehabilitation period using various types of methods to aid recovery. It takes a holistic approach that involves the patient directly in their own care.
We cater the needs of the Hospital's inpatients, as well as referrals from General Practitioners, various Consultants and other Physiotherapists. Interventions rendered from therapeutic exercise, manual therapy as well as thermal electrotherapeutic modalities base on the assessment outcomes and patients' needs.
Most conditions treated by our Physiotherapists require a short course of treatment, which after careful assessment, are tailored specifically to your individual physical capabilities and rate of progress.

HOW IS THE PROGRAMME CONDUCTED?
Making the appointment
The appointment can be arranged directly through the PSWC at 03 – 40267777 extension 6055 / 6054 or you may walk in to make an appointment.
Preparation for the appointment
Before the appointment, please be sure to prepare any of the following items that may pertain to you:
Valid Letter of Guarantee from approved company (if any / cover by company)
NRIC or Birth Certificate for Malaysian Citizens under the age of 12
Passports for all foreigners
Appropriate exercise attire and footwear (for patients undergoing stress test)
Any reading materials for personal use while waiting
It is advisable to fast from midnight on the day before your screening appointment to ensure the accuracy of blood test for glucose and cholesterol profile.
Only plain water is allowed prior to screening.
Please inform the medical staff if you have any health problems such as chest pain, discomfort or tightness or have undergone any procedure such as balloon angioplasty, stenting or bypass surgery.
Please avoid from bringing expensive valuables with you during the screening.
You will be provided with light refreshments once your blood has been taken by the laboratory technician and / or after completing the ultrasound abdomen examination.
Advice for Women
Please book your appointment around day 10-14 of your menstrual cycle. This is about one week after your last day of menstruation.
If you are menstruating on the day of your appointment, please call up the PSWC to reschedule your appointment. The result of your pap smear and urine test will be affected if you are menstruating.
Please inform the medical staff if you are pregnant or suspect that you may be pregnant as X-Rays, bone scans and mammograms are not recommended.
X-Rays are not recommended for those who has a similar X-Ray less than 6 months.
You will be required to put on a gown and advised to remove your jewelleries and bra before scanning.
Advice on Mammogram
Avoid this examination if you are, or may be pregnant.
Do not use talcum powder or deodorant before your examination.
If you had mammogram before, please bring the films for our perusal.
For best mammogram results, you should arrange for the examination approximately one week after your last day of menstruation.
This examination is done using a specifically designed X-Ray machine with a low dose X-Ray radiation to visualise your breast tissue and to detect any breast mass or calcification that is highly correlated to breast cancer.
Advice on Breast Ultrasound
The test will take about 30 - 45 minutes.
You will be asked to lie on a scanning couch.
A special gel is smeared onto the area to be examined. This gel will not stain and can be wiped off easily.
A probe will be moved over the area of examination. There should be no pain or discomfort.
Advice on Pap Smear
Appointment should be made around 12 - 20 days of the menstrual cycle. Please reschedule appointment if you are menstruating on the appointment date because the result of the Pap smear will be inaccurate.
Advice on Ultrasound Abdomen
Do not take any food at least six hours before the examination. Smokers are requested to refrain from smoking on the day of your appointment until after your ultrasound has been completed.
This examination is to detect any lesions related to the organs in the abdomen i.e the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen and kidneys.
Advice on Ultrasound Pelvis
You may have food or drink before the examination.
Please drink at least 5 - 10 cups of water, as a full bladder is necessary and do not empty your bladder until after your ultrasound has been completed.
This examination is to detect any lesions related to the uterus, ovaries, bladder and presence of any pelvic mass for female and to detect enlarged prostate gland for male patients.
Advice on Stress Test (Treadmill Exercise Test)
This procedure takes about 45 minutes to an hour, excluding waiting time. Please avoid heavy meals before the test.
Please bring along appropriate exercise attire and footwear.
Please inform the doctor if you are on heart medication.
Please inform the medical staff if there is any chest pain or discomfort before starting the test. Appointment can be rescheduled.
Please exercise at home for a few days to increase stamina before coming for the stress test to achieve better performance and complete assessment of the heart.
Advice on HIV Test
Please note that the HIV test will not be performed as a routine screening procedure unless specifically requested. You are required to sign a consent form if you wish to be screened for HIV.

If you are unable to do the things you want, or need to do, to live and enjoy your life, your general well-being may be affected.
Occupational therapist at KPJ Tawakkal Specialist Hospital provide its services in the field of orthopaedic and hand injury hand, neuro-surgical neurology, paediatric and psychosocial areas e.g. CVA (stroke) head injuries, fractures, nerve and tendon injuries of hand, joint mobility sustaining in rheumatoid arthritis and others. Tailored made pressure garment for post burn cases as well as custom splinting service is also provided.
KPJ Tawakkal Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist works in tandem towards restoring function and independence of the clients to lead a healthy and effective lifestyle.

A dedicated Home Nursing Team offers Post-Operative Rehabilitation Care upon discharge. This ensures that correct care and necessary follow up rehabilitation work continues to take place at the comforts of our patients' home.
For International Patients, we support this through provision of video recording of rehabilitation regimes. This has been implemented since June 2015. Where necessary continued assistance is further provided via electronic media.

All medications dispensed shall be labelled accordingly with the name of the medications. We strongly advise patients to:

4- Inform your doctor and/or pharmacist if you have experienced any allergic reactions with your medications.

General Advice On The Use And Handling Of Medicines
1- Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. In case of overdosage, seek medical attention at once.
2- If you develop an allergic or unusual reaction to any medicine, contact your doctor at once.
3- The medicine prescribed for you is specific to treat your present condition. Never give your medicine to anyone else.
4- To avoid mistakes, do not take medicines in the dark or mix different medicines in one container.
5- Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
6- Store medicines away from heat and direct sunlight.
7- Medicines which are expired or no longer needed should be disposed of. Do consult your pharmacist on how to dispose it.
8- The word "POISON" which may appear on your medicine packages means a controlled medicine under the Poisons Ordinance 1952.

ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY
Referral to specialist is done immediately when necessary.
The unit is also equipped with a minor operation theatre for minor surgeries and other emergency procedures.

It is also called as 'breast Imaging'
A technique of using ultrasound modality to produce images within the body to diagnose and high frequency of sound wave is use instead of radiation.

Also known as magnetic resonance imaging, is a pain-free non-invasive test used to produce two dimensional images of body structures by using intense magnetic fields on to patient body.

An x-ray procedure which combines many x-ray images with the aid of a computer to generate cross-sectional views and, if needed, three-dimensional images of the internal organs and structures of the body. A CT scan is used to define normal and abnormal structures in the body with high resolution images.

- Patient must be in the department 15 minute earlier .
- Patient with medication must inform the radiographer on duty.
- Radio opaque should be removed
Note : Liquid diluted gastrografin (contrast media) to be taken orally 20-30 minutes before examination (as required).

Special examination is an imaging procedure involving difference of positive contrast (Barium sulphate solvent or organic iodine suspension). The contrast media is given to the patient through tube, injection or oral.
