A Consultant Psychiatrist is a specialist in Psychiatry who evaluates, diagnoses and provides treatment to the patients with mental illnesses and disorders, including bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, addiction, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dementia etc.

The scope of care provided by Dr. Chan includes:

1. Mental Health Promotion

2. Diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses

3. Psychoeducation to patient and caregivers

4. Psychotherapy

5. Counselling

6. Collaboration with other health care professionals, and utilizing consultation or referral as appropriate

7. Other non-pharmacological interventions

He is a member of Malaysian Psychiatric Association (MPA). He is also actively involved in research in HKL and he is head for Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) for Management of Dementia review group in MOH. His special interest is dementia and delirium in elderly.
