Dato Dr Azmin Kass graduated from the University of Malaya in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery(MBBS) in 1986. He started his neurosurgery training in 1988 at Hospital Kuala Lumpur and received scholarship to pursue further training at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium from 1993 to 1996. Upon his return from Belgium, he worked at HKL as a Consultant Neurosurgeon and was later transferred to Penang General Hospital in 1998. He was the Head of Neurosurgery department in Pulau Pinang until 2005.
In 2006, he was posted to Hospital Sungai Buloh to establish a new Department of Neurosurgery and continued as the Head of Department until 2022. He was instrumental in the development of neurosurgical services in Hospital Sungai Buloh, Selangor and Malaysia. Under his leadership, the first deep-brain stimulation via awake surgery for Parkinson’s disease was performed in 2012. This was the first surgery at the MOH Malaysia hospital. From the beginning of 2014, the service expanded to include epilepsy cases. In 2010, the hospital has been the first health institution in Malaysia to provide intra-operative imaging with ultrasound and CT.
Dato Dr Azmin Kass was also appointed as the Head of National Neurosurgery Programme in 2019, responsible for education, training, organization and development of neurosurgical services nationwide. He has 35 years of extensive experience and has gained proficient skills in his field. He aims to provide the best medical treatment to every patient in a holistic approach.
