Dr Hafizan graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in 1996. He then returned to serve in Hospital Kuala Terengganu followed by Hospital Kuala Lumpur. He graduated as a general surgeon in 2004 and further completed his training in vascular surgery in 2008. He continued to serve in the public service till 2021. While in service, he also covers various public hospital across Malaysia in providing vascular surgical services. He is a trainer in the National Vascular Surgery fellowship program and has been involved in developing National Clinical Practice Guidelines.

He is apt in acquiring new knowledge and skills in providing up to date, evidence based patient management of various vasculopathy. He is also well experienced in the management of arteriovenous fistula (AVF) from creation, surveillance and maintaining a healthy AVF in haemodialysis patients. He is well versed in performing vascular surgery procedures both in the operative and endovascular methods.
