Dr Yahya received his basic medical degree, MBBS from Manipal Academy of Higher Education in 1996, and  Master of Surgery (General Surgery) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2003. Subsequently, he pursued training in surgical subspecialty and completed his Fellowship in Breast and Endocrine Surgery in Halle-Wittenberg University, Germany in 2011. Dr Yahya has been practising as a consultant surgeon in General Surgery and Breast & Endocrine Surgery in public as well as private hospitals.

Apart from clinical services, Dr Yahya also very passionate in teaching undergraduate medical students. He was previously affiliated with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak and Universiti Teknologi Mara. For this, he was awarded associate professor in surgery. Dr Yahya also a passionate clinical trainer involved in surgical courses and hands-on workshops, training medical officers and young surgeons. His administrative experiences include leading a surgical department and medical director in a private specialist centre.   

Dr Yahya clinical expertise focuses on managing benign and malignant breast cancers, thyroid diseases including thyroid cancer, hyperparathyroidism and adrenal diseases. He practices according to the updated international clinical recommendations and state of the art surgical technique including application of the da Vinci robotic system for thyroid surgery. All of his robotic thyroidectomies completed without conversion or complication, and patients were discharged on the first or second postoperative day.
